From Portugal to Dubai, and Now, Home
Our journey begins not in Portugal, but
in
the heart of
the
Middle East—a
place where people from all
over the world come together in search of opportunity and adventure. It was Dubai that brought two
Portuguese souls—Antonio and Kate—into the same orbit, even though their
lives started 8,000
kilometers away from there.
Antonio made his move to Dubai in 2012, while Kate followed a year later in 2013. Fate, as it often
does, had its own plans. One evening, after returning from a trip to Qatar, Antonio had no intention
of going out. He had even skipped a sushi dinner (not his favorite!). But thanks to a very insistent
friend, he eventually agreed to join a group at a club.
That night, without a formal introduction, Antonio found himself in deep conversation with Kate.
Amusingly, they spent long minutes speaking in English, each believing the other was a
foreigner—Antonio, convinced Kate was from the UK, and Kate, unsure who this “Mohammed” might be. It
wasn’t until a mutual friend noticed their confusion and intervened, that they discovered they were
both Portuguese. In that instant, the ice was truly broken, and a friendship was sparked.
What followed were endless conversations until sunrise, shared dinners, laughter, and countless
smiles. Their first real adventure together soon took them across the desert, driving in a tiny
two-seater car to Muscat, Oman—a spontaneous road trip that set the tone for their life together:
bold, curious, and always side by side.
Though their paths had crossed in Dubai, their relationship blossomed in Abu Dhabi, where they
started dating in 2014. Three years later, in 2017, they were married there—the very same year their
son, little Antonio, was born. Since then, their family has grown, and so have the number of
adventures they’ve shared.
Dubai, with its vibrant mix of cultures, endless possibilities, and sense of adventure, became the
unlikely backdrop for their Portuguese love story. It’s a place that shaped them—teaching them
resilience, openness, and the joy of bringing together different worlds.
Now, as they celebrate eight years of marriage and prepare to renew their vows in Portugal for the
first time, this moment feels incredibly special. Not only are they honoring their journey as a
couple, but they’re also celebrating the baptism of their youngest child. Most importantly, they get
to share this milestone with all of you—the friends and family who have been part of their story all
along.
This celebration is more than just a wedding or a baptism; it’s a homecoming. It’s a chance to
gather everyone who has joined them on this adventure called love and to remind us all that no
matter how far we travel, love brings us together—again and again
